What is your screenplay about?

SID – Prologue is about an artificial intelligence tasked with reintroducing human life, after the human race is eradicated by a virus.

What genres does your screenplay fall under?

Sci-Fi/Drama.

Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?

From one perspective I believe there is a basic message of peace and respect within the story that, given the current political & racial, hate mongering climates, needs to be heard, understood, and learned from. From another perspective, people need to be made more aware of repercussions of their actions & in-actions.

How would you describe this script in two words?

Potentially influential.

What movie have you seen the most times in your life?

Tough question, maybe Die Hard, 1988, or possibly Apocalypse Now, 1979, but the answer could be any one of a plethora of other movies. Maybe American Beauty, 1999.

How long have you been working on this screenplay?

Maybe six months at this point.

How many stories have you written?

One.

What is your favorite song? (Or, what song have you listened to the most times in your life?)

Possibly, Sweetness Dream Of Me by Anton Barbeau.

What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?

Who said I’ve finished? Biggest obstacle though? Probably insomnia, or a lack of Stroopwafels.

Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Passion is a mighty strong word, I’m passionate about watching movies also. I live for the next scene to play on repeat for days without end.

You entered your screenplay via FilmFreeway. What has been your experiences working with the submission platform site?

Quick & painless.

What influenced you to enter the festival? What were your feelings on the initial feedback you received?

The influence to enter your festival was your location. My feelings on the initial feedback were, that I felt a sense of relief. It finally seemed possible that I may have had an idea worth investigating.

What genres does your screenplay fall under?

I call it horror/thriller

Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?

Because it is the epitome of horror. There are a number of horror movies out there that while they have blood and killing and monsters are just not scary. They follow an old formula that starts with masked man with weapon and after a while that boogieman fails to move us like he did before. If I Die gets under your skin because it is revealed that the very person that should be protecting you, the one who is the closest, is the one who may thrust the knife. If you’re not safe in the suburban home of your mother and father, are you safe anywhere?

Deadly secrets.

Nightmare on Elm Street, of course.

Two novels, one short story and seven flash fiction stories.

What motivated you to write this screenplay?

I wanted to write something terrifying and what’s more frightening than your mother?

What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?

I’m extremely busy so finding time is usually my number one obstacle.

Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Reading and making films.

Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

Not my words, but my favorite writing quote, “Writers write.”

1pg Short Script – TRUE REGRET by Matt Kasper

Watch the September 2016 Winning Short Screenplay.

TRUE REGRET
Written by Matt Kasper

SYNOPSIS:

Genre: Drama

About a man seeking forgiveness during his final minutes on earth, for the one action he has ever felt regret for.

CAST LIST:

NARRATOR – Julian Ford
NANCY- Alicia Payne
HEAD GUARD – Peter Mark Raphael
HENRY – Donald Molnar

Get to know the winning writer:

What is your screenplay about?

My screenplay is about a man seeking forgiveness during his final minutes on earth, for the one action he has ever felt regret for.

What genres does your 1pg. short fall under?

This short falls into the drama category.

Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?

I think this screenplay should be made into a movie because even at one page the emotions felt are so rich. While writing this short, I was coming up with some of the backstory in my head, to help me make the characters and events real. After I finished, Henry’s story was still ping ponging around in my mind, so I actually started to write a script.

How would you describe this script in two words?

Emotionally charged.

What movie have you seen the most times in your life?

This is a very tough question, my most watched movie would probably be Forrest Gump, it is just one of those movies you can turn off if you see that it is on.

How long have you been working on this screenplay?

I found out about this contest rather late so I was only able to work on it for about a week before having to send it in to meet the deadline. Just after entering a few months ago, I did start writing a complete screenplay based on this last scene. I have finished about fifty pages.

How many stories have you written?

I have written a few stories here and there since I was a kid, but recently I finished writing a graphic novel. This is the only thing I have written that I would consider a full complete adult story.

What motivated you to write this screenplay?

If you are asking what motivated me to write this screenplay and send it in, the answer would be, I was excited to be able to see how my writing stacked up, and I was just interested in getting some professional feedback so that I could improve my skill. If you are asking what motivated me to write this particular story the answer is far less easy to explain. To be honest, my friend sent me this link and for the first day or so I spent my time thinking about what story could I tell in about a minute. While driving home from work, the image of an electric chair and the last moments of a mans life came into my head, it took the rest of the week to flesh the rest out.

What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?

By far the toughest thing about this challenge was to try and tell a cohesive story while including all the emotions, dialog, and stage directions on just one page.

Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

I am really passionate about music, and looking back I guess I could say that the music I was listening to while writing this (Johnny Cash) sort of helped motivate me to come up with the tone of this piece.

Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

The two biggest tips I can give that helped me are to just write, write, write. It is not all going to be very good, or even good at all, but the more you write the more comfortable you become. My second tip is to read a lot. It always helps me feel more creative before starting a new project.
