Get to know the winning writer:

What is your screenplay about?

We never forget who we learn by heart.

What genres does your screenplay under?

Historical Drama / Magical Realism

Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?

The story was inspired by my great aunt, who when she was twelve, became the center of a town scandal that resulted in two suicides and the imprisonment of several men.

How would you describe this script in two words?

“Keep going.”

What movie have you seen the most times in your life?

How long have you been working on this screenplay?

This is a single-page version of a 20-page short.

How many stories have you written?

Several short stories, two unproduced features, and a television pilot. Also, as former head writer for Walt Disney Imagineering and Disneyland Paris, several theme park attraction scripts.

What motivated you to write this screenplay?

I discovered the scandal involving my great aunt while I was researching my family tree. Even though she had been exploited and abused by wealthy men in the town, she was shipped off to a reform school. This story is an attempt to “release” her.

What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?

No obstacles, really. Just kept looking real hard for the essence.

Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Enjoying my son as he runs high school cross country, sings with an exclusive jazz ensemble, and showers his parents with love.

Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

“Keep going.”
