THE SAND AND WATER OF STYX Written by Peer Ynt CAST LIST: NARRATOR – Laura Kyswaty |
SYNOPSIS:
Mystery, Horror
An evil magic mirror and hypnosis.
Get to know the winning writer:
What is your screenplay about?
About few things that probably won’t be spotted at first glance, so to speak. My guess is that on the surface you’d see an evil magic mirror and hypnosis. But if you’d watch it again, more things would reveal themselves. Depends on how deep you’d want to dig and how experienced you are as the human soul expert.
What genres does your screenplay under?
Mystery and horror.
Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?
One reason would be that it can be done with a ridiculously low budget. Another reason would be the predominant use of reverse angle which, I think, is the “icing” on this “cake” without which the cake wouldn’t be half as good.
How would you describe this script in two words?
Eerie mystery.
What movie have you seen the most times in your life?
It’s got to be one of the Alien franchise films. Likely Aliens. I watch the whole franchise once a year.
How long have you been working on this screenplay?
One night and one day. Originally it was a draft for a longer story, written in my mother’s tongue which isn’t English. I rewrote and translated it in one day specifically for this contest.
How many stories have you written?
None that’s published. I’ve never sent anything like that for publishing.
What motivated you to write this screenplay?
As for the original writing; they say eyes are the mirror to the soul. I wanted to take that old truth and explore it further and deeper. And as it usually happens, I ended up with something a little different from the original idea. As for the translation and making it into a screenplay; I thought the reading would make a nice birthday gift. (I really like making gifts for special people.) It turned out to be a Christmas gift instead. I hope they like it.
What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?
None really. I had some struggle while fitting everything into one page which meant that some time had to be spent editing, making decisions about what to delete and what’s staying.
Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
Music, photography, cinema, journalism, digital art.
Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
Be daring, break rules and be in love with your story.
