RSVP Next Event – DRAMA & EXPERIMENTAL Night. Tuesday July 7th. 7pm

Yonge-Dundas Square’s (YDS) annual outdoor movie series City Cinema is moving online this summer for the brand-new Virtual City Cinema, featuring short films from WILDsound Festival!

Virtual City Cinema presented by YDS in association with WILDsound Festival will begin on June 30 and last 10 weeks. Throughout the summer, the series will feature roughly 10 independent short films each week. These films have been curated by WILDsound Festival, an international film festival that showcases the best of short films from around the world and has previously had weekly screenings at Carlton Cinemas here in Toronto.

Virtual City Cinema is completely free! Simply click here to register for the date(s) of your choice to receive a private YouTube link to screen the films, sent directly to your email the day of the screening. The films will premiere at 8PM EST every Tuesday. After watching, you will be sent a survey to provide feedback to the filmmakers and be entered for a chance to win a Downtown Yonge Experience prize pack!

BLACK STAINS, 14min, USA, Experimental/Dance

Black Stains addresses the systemic pattern of racial profiling by the police. Inspired by the personal experiences of choreographer Trent D. Williams, Jr., the film illustrates the reality of being black in the United States. Through interviews with men of varying ages and robust athletic dancing, the film persistently asks the question: why do we not see black men as human?

WHEN EARTH TOOK A BREATH, 5min., USA, Music

Ora The Molecule’s “When Earth Took A Breath (Are You There?)” depicts our relationship with the natural world. Searching for Wonder was inspired by conversations with fellow artists who have diverse relationships to the African Diaspora. These discussions highlighted how we all feel lost in different ways, because history, slavery, colonialism & fear have left many of us feeling disconnected, searching for something we can’t fully articulate. Searching for Wonder deals with the tremendous power we have to rediscover & reimagine ourselves through our ancestors, their gods, their cultures & our interconnectedness.
